Sunset, Sand and Smokes

She sunk into the sand, took her smokes out of her bag and lit a cigarette. The smoke blew up, disappearing into thin air - Oh if only her problems could disappear the same way. She just couldn't believe what she had heard a couple of minutes ago. What he told her, what he did. She finished her cigarette, and flicked it out onto the sand; watching the butt glow and slowly fade. She drew another one from her packet, noticing she only had 4 left and at this rate they weren't going to last long.

The sound of the waves hitting the rocks was so relaxing - and the orangey sky with cotton like clouds - sunset was definitely her favourite time of the day. She began to walk to the water, unbuttoning her jeans on the way, threw them and her tee a few steps away from the shoreline. Plunging herself into the water- she felt vacant and disengaged of all her worries. No words could possibly describe the beauty of what she was feeling. Dripping.. she walked back up the beach, picked up all of her items and walked towards her car. Drove home ignoring every speed limit and stop sign along the way.

She switched the fireplace on as soon as she got home, then bolted up to her room, grabbed every single item that reminded her of him; pictures, gifts, birthday cards.. and hurried back down; not giving herself a chance to change her mind. She sat and watched the pictures burn away, turning into mere ashes.

Glass of red wine in one hand, cigarette in the other and Coldplay playing softly in the background.. This was the first of many steps she would take to mend her broken heart
